Personally, I'd start looking for another explanation. It's already been said; D Trump himself said, “ANY GOP nominee could have beat Hillary”!
My own statement holds true as well: “Democrats don't win elections; Republicans lose them.” This is the best example imaginable: This one wasn't lost.
