No writing last light - after a 4,000 word week I'm a bit written out. I tend to let chapters stew in my back-brain for a few days, then sit down and write them out all in one shot. At the moment, I've hit a plot point in one of my arcs - the "commit to action" for Jack Williams and Janet Pilgrim. But the next couple of action steps for them are preparatory in nature - training, practice, etc. So I need to shift plots for a bit.

In other news, I watched and enjoyed last night's episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. I think this series works specifically because it's not just "OMG Terminatorz Coming." Sarah and John are fighting a covert time-war, attempting to prevent the future. In a neat touch, last week's episode was about Skynet trying to stockpile resources for the coming war. Running an industrial war machine after you've just blown up most forms of industry ain't easy. Lastly, Summer Glau plays one hell of a robot!

Lastly, John Scalzi linked to a Washington Post article about female Cobra attack helicopter pilot. The article is well worth reading. It's key point is that the debate over women in combat is over, because they are in combat right now.

Unlike the US military, the Canadian Armed Forces does put women in ground combat rolls, and it has been a relatively uncontentious issue, even after Captain Nichola Goddard (our first female combat fatality) was killed in a firefight in Afghanistan back in May 2006.

I'm aware of the Canadians. Also the Danish (who had females on ships back in the late 1980s) and I think some other countries.

Part of the issue in the US is the great deal of ignorance of all things military by the general public.
