Chicago has gone from an English (cold and wet) to a Southern (hot and humid)summer literally overnight. Oh joy.

In other news, I have cast my Hugo ballot. I decided that the first principle was that I was not going to vote on anything not in the electronic Hugo packet. If somebody couldn't get their stuff online, well, too bad and so sad.

My second principle came up with regards to "best related" book. As I've mentioned before, this category is a tough one for me. So, I decided to rank the books in order of probability that I'd actually buy them. That made things much simpler, if completely subjective.

In other news, J. Kathleen Cheney went to a meeting of the local chapter of the Romance Writers of America (RWA). She did not have a good or productive time, so here's hoping she finds a better fit.

I suspect it would be too far to drive to visit the Chicagoe RWA monthly ;o)

I do have a lead on a reportedly more open group that's nearer than Chicago, though ;o)

As a member of the RWA chapter from Chicago's western suburbs (Windy City Chapter), I'm appalled by your reception. My chapter has the opposite problem, so many people come up to welcome the new people that they often feel overwhelmed. :-) Too bad you live so far away. There are good chapters out there, and while RWA-National might not always be what I want it to be, my local chapter has been priceless, so keep looking.

I've been told that a nearby chapter would be more welcoming. It's a 3 hours drive, but that might be worth it ;o)

And I've heard good things about the national organization (yes, I know there are some problems right now, but the SFWA has our share of those ,too), so I really don't consider this to be 'normal' for the RWA.

I'll just keep looking ;o)
