General Crankiness
Jul. 9th, 2006 08:06 pmMy Comcast high-speed Internet has been down all weekend, much to my irritation. It's amazing what you miss when it's gone.
In other irritating news, my one-cup coffee maker sprung a leak. It's less then a year old, so that's strike one. I'm not a heavy coffee guy - one with breakfast and one at work - so I'm looking for a replacement. Target's offering is $99 freaking dollars! Not only that, it only works with the pre-packaged coffee packs AND has 12 buttons on it! That's 11 more then I need pre-caffiene. So I go to Walmart - no joy there. I have become convinced that American companies are abandoning the low end of the market. This may be good for short-term profit, but it can't be a long-term strategy.
My one bright spot this weekend was going to see the latest installment of "Pirates of the Caribbean." Critics have claimed this one was too long, but it felt to me shorter then the first episode. I think this is because, unlike the first one, we're not continually going back to the same damn island.
Don't get me wrong - "Pirates" isn't Academy Award material - but it delivers what it claims to, namely straight-up popcorn-eating fun.
