Calm Before The Storm
May. 14th, 2007 09:43 amI spent the weekend doing "domestic stuff" including planting tomatoes and doing about eight loads of laundry. I was downstate with the parents last weekend. Tuesday thru Thursday I will be at a work-related convention and will be spending next weekend at the Grand Geneva Resort for a Rotary convention. In short, a busy week ahead, so last weekend was my time to reload.
Last night, I did a pay-per-view screening of Blood Diamond. It's a really solid and well-plotted action movie. It also does a good job of portraying the poverty, depravity and general crapiness of large parts of post-colonial Africa. Leonardo DeCaprio plays a Rhodesian mercenary, Djimon Hounsou plays a poor and honest fisherman, and there's a large cast of secondary characters. There's one "movie magic" coincidence, but overall it's well worth the price. I should mention that the violence is graphic and plentiful, so it's not a kid-flick.
