I'm always surprised at what gets people talking on this blog. For example, I wrote a profound (I thought) blog entry comparing Lord Byron to Britney Spears, and got no comments. Then I wrote a rambling entry about my personal car troubles and a talk I was giving, and got eight comments. Apparently, I'm not very good at predicting what will get discussed and what won't.

Chicago has not escaped the massive rains that have been hitting the upper Midwest over the last few weeks. We've had some localized flooding, which has fortunately spared me and in any event isn't nearly as bad as Ohio. The only effect I've personally dealt with is my tomato plants. It's been so wet, and intermittently cold (for August in Chicago, at least) that I've had quite a few tomatoes rotting on the vine. I guess since I usually have more then I can shake a stick at, this is not a real problem.

I'm scheduled for a sex change operation this weekend - no, not that kind! One of my characters for the work-in-progress Space Rescue is going from "Penny Sharpe" to "Peter Kohl." I've got a few too many women lead characters in this book, and I need to change it up a bit. In what's somewhat of a switch, Peter will need rescuing from Janet Pilgrim, star of The Mars Run. She's not been doing well of late, suffering from a bit of PTSD, and this outing will hopefully get her back on track.

Speaking of operations, I just had my post-op checkup on the gallbladder. All is well, and I'm cleared for all activities.
