Culture Vulture and other thoughts
Oct. 7th, 2007 11:37 amComcast, in their infinite wisdom, has decided not to keep my cable Internet modem operational, so I'm posting this via my AOL dialup. To make matters worse, the area code overlay for the 630 area code (we are now also the 331 area code) went into effect today, requiring me to dial 1+630 for all calls. It took me 15 minutes to convince the "wizard" of AOL that I really wanted to dial 630. /end rant/
In more entertaining news, I've been a bit of a culture vulture. The College of DuPage, our local junior (sorry, "community") college, has a very nice Fine Arts center. Last night I attended The Woman In Black, a very nice ghost story written by Stephen Mallatratt, a modern English playwright. It's playing in their smaller, 180-seat theater, and well worth the price of admission.
Last weekend, I attended a concert in the College's 800 seat main theater. The concert was put on by The New Philharmonic, their resident symphony. The director, Kirk Muspratt, appears to be the stereotypical long-haired, egotistical egghead (go check out his picture!) but he seems to have a sense of humor about himself, and the symphony did a very nice job of the performance.
Things like the College of DuPage's fine arts programs make living in an urban area very attractive.
