Happy Thanksgiving, Part 2
Nov. 22nd, 2007 10:51 amI'm at the old homestead downstate. We usually have the big dinner here, which means many "alarums and excursions" to get ready. This year we're doing it at my aunt's, so less alarums. Thus I have some time to blog.
kristine_smith, one of my favorite writers, saw a three-in-one of her early Jani Killian novels recently put out by the Science Fiction Book Club. Since I hadn't read them, I bought it and brought it down. I'm only a few chapters into the first novel, but I can see now that a lot of what happened in the later books was very carefully set up in the earlier books. It's kind of neat seeing that unfold.
So, what am I thankful for today? A list.
- Health. Mom's hip is good, my gallbladder is gone, and overall we're in good shape.
- Financial security. The parental retirement accounts are in good order, and my sister just picked up a Federal job at the VA, with decent cash and benefits.
- Good luck. Sometimes the difference between a good day and a bad one is being in the right place. We've had no problems such as car wrecks or house fires (a coworker of mine has been out of his for several months as a result of a fire).
If you've got the day off today, enjoy it!
