Dec. 18th, 2007 02:19 pmSo I don't know if you've seen them, but Hummer, the folks that make those huge civilian SUVs based off of the military HUMVEE, has a new commercial. It's called "Hummers Help" and it's a montage of scenes where Hummer owners helped out in various natural disasters.
I'm of two minds about the commercial. First, Hummers are sold by General Motors, also called "Generous Motors" in my family, since it's responsible for providing a comfortable lifestyle to my dad and several uncles. So, anything that helps General Motors tends to get a favorable pass from me.
My second mind is that very few people buy a Hummer so that they can help folks out in a disaster. Most Hummer owners are just looking for the gaudiest SUV they can find to drive to the supermarket. So the commercial, albeit well-made, has all the honesty of a perfume commercial.
Courtesy of Making Light, I found this link about a person who upgrades from Vista to Windows XP (not a typo) humorous and on-point. It's geek humor, but then I am a geek, so what can I say?
