Friday Reflections
Feb. 15th, 2008 02:46 pmIt seems like it's been a long week. Fortunately, we've gone three days in a row with no appreciable snow, at least in my part of Chicago, and this winter that's something to write home (or blog) about.
I've been interviewing candidates for a network support position at my day job. It's tiring, trying to keep everybody straight. It's also difficult to make such a big decision based on a few brief and formal meetings.
No sooner had I uploaded my OMG A Gun then some nut decides to shoot up the campus at Northern Illinois University. It's sad, but unfortunately I don't know how one secures a college campus. Nor is it just college campuses that are at risk - last week somebody killed five people in a Lane Bryant story in Tinley Park. I wish that violent and/or mentally unstable people weren't walking among us, but wishing for something doesn't make it so.
Our Wednesday night after-hours event was a dual-purpose thing. Held at the day-job's Darien location, we were trying to get more business for the bank and recruit people for Rotary. I think we've got a couple of interested folks - now to see if they follow through.
I belong to a group called Gourmet Connections which is a singles dinner club. It's not been working out very well for me date-wise, so I've backed off my involvement. However, I got two emails today from the group's Head Cheese saying that he needed guys to even out tonight's dinner. So, I'm going, and tomorrow night I've got an Employee Appreciation Dinner for work. It's a busy weekend, and with yet another major winter storm on tap for Sunday, Saturday looks like a shopping day.
