Writing Group Update
Oct. 1st, 2008 08:26 amSo I had my writing group meeting last night. It was very interesting, and full of useful comments. I feel I got overly defensive on a point about tech levels, but the group was right - what was in my head wasn't on the page.
I tried to make one of the bad guys sympathetic, but I'm full of Epic Fail and it didn't work. So, she's now going to be unsympathetic, and involved with the bad guys up to her eyebrows. It's easier for me and frankly makes more sense. She will be a competent bad guy, but her boss will inject Leadership (think the evil twin of Dilbert's pointy-haired boss) at strategic moments.
One of the group's complaints was that I had too many point-of-view characters. I counted last night after the meeting and came up with nine. I've got a lot of stuff going on, but I could probably consolidate viewpoints. (My Internal Editor: Ya think so?!)
The last question asked at the meeting was "who is this story about?" Well, sitting at home, I figured out which characters changed the most, and two names came up. It's about them.
