Winter Solstice
Dec. 21st, 2008 07:42 pmHappy solstice to you! The temperature gage in my back yard hasn't gotten into positive territory all day, and the wind has blown fiercely. This might be a typical winter day for Jim Wright up in Alaska, but here in civilization, this is the kind of weather that that brass monkeys dread. So, other then to retrieve the paper and get breakfast, I have not left my house.
Thus, I had a slow Sunday afternoon. I'm reminded of a scene in one of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books. Some immortal being had gone bonkers, and devoted himself to personally insulting everybody in the galaxy, one at a time in alphabetical order.
Sunday afternoons had driven the alien over the edge. Specifically, that long stretch of afternoon after the Sunday paper was read, and before Sunday dinner, with the lingering dread of going back to work Monday morning. (After all, even immortals have to earn cash somehow.)
Well, I felt that drag this afternoon. Not being immortal, I found other ways to pass the time, but today did rather drag on. The highlight of my day, Prime Suspect - The Final Act is coming on, so I shall sign off.
