So I got an email the other day asking if I was interested in attending Capricon. It's one of three Chicago-based science fiction cons, and takes place February 19-22.
I'm undecided, for several reasons. First, that date is two weekends before my Rotary charity auction, which is usually a stressful period. On the other hand, I'm not running the auction, and besides, the reason I'm stressed (people not signing up) is not something I have control over.
My second issue is the duration. Capricon is a Thursday - Sunday event, although looking at the schedule for last year, it appears that nothing (or at least nothing I'm interested in) happens before noon on Friday. This is a factor because, even though I'm local, I tend to get a room. Not just to make attending parties easier, but to serve as a base during the day.
My last issue is a desire to get my quota of cons in. It appears that my 24th high school reunion will be the same weekend as Duckon. This is important in that it looks like I'm on the committee for the 25th reunion the following year. (Oh joy.)
So, if I don't go Capricon-ing, I may only get one SF con in for the year (Windycon, in November). And I actually like being on programming - apparently I like to blovate! ;-)
Decisions, decisions.
