Or, so it would seem if you were watching TV news shows about the swine flu outbreak. Don't get me wrong - the swine flu is a problem, just not "end of the world" in scope. Here is some useful information I have been disseminating at work:

1)Hand-washing is the single best prevention.
2)Alcohol-based hand sanitizers are NOT as effective as regular hand-washing, but you can use the sanitizers as a supplement.
3)If you feel sick, do everybody a favor and stay home. You can be contagious up to 7 days after onset of symptoms.
4)If somebody in your house is sick, read the CDC's guidelines on how to care for sick people without spreading the illness.
5)Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze. Use a tissue or the crook of your arm.
6) You can get the straight scoop online from the CDC via Twitter.
7) A good flu backgrounder is over on Making Light.

Panic, rumors and fear don’t do anybody any good. Take a deep breath and remain calm.
