I Don't (Heart) Will Ferrell
Dec. 23rd, 2009 04:18 pmNow, don't get me wrong - I'm sure Will Ferrell is a perfectly nice guy and all. I just find his comedy less than amusing. (This thought is brought to you by seeing 50 million promos for Ferrell's film Elf.)
I recognize that I hold a minority view, judging by the gross receipts for his last few movies. My problem with Ferrell is that he seems to play one character, the socially-inept clueless dude. Now, laughing at the socially-inept clueless dude has been a trait of humanity since they laughed at Throg for farting during the chief's big State of the Cave speech. And I probably would have joined the laughter at Throg's expense.
I can (and do) appreciate small doses of Throg-ish humor, but two hours of it? It gets old. Humor is after all based on surprise, and Will just doesn't surprise me.
