No Rotary today, and I'm at the office as opposed to the new bank, so I have a few minutes to blog.
The Palms Casino
Very nice place, great rooms, and a wide variety of dining options. I had probably the best rib-eye steak I've ever had at their French restaurant, and a good breakfast in their buffet. The French place is on top of one of the towers, with a great view of the city, and the kind of establishment where they ask your "water preference." I don't know - wet? (The choices were sparkling, mineral or house.)
But I don't think I'll stay there again. The Palms is off the strip, so going anywhere else is a bit of an excursion. Also, they had a surprisingly small amount of table games going, and at a higher minimum stake then I prefer. I dropped $200 gambling there, and probably didn't even register on their "preferred customer" program. I hear that the Tropicana spent some bucks upgrading the joint - I'll try to remember them next time.
Books
So, the Big Brazilian River sent my copy of Jack Campbell's Victorious (The Lost Fleet)
in the mail today. You may safely assume that I'll start reading it tonight. Also,
j_cheney tells me that the collection of novellas that she's a part of got a starred review in Publishers Weekly. Having read an ARC of the collection, I'm not surprised. My review will be up shortly.
