I received an email last night from our somewhat computer-challenged class leader regarding the upcoming events for the WHS Class of 1985 reunion. To help spread the word, I will post the information here and link to it from Facebook:

D. L. writes: We are nearing our 25th anniversary and as you have heard we are the class responsible for paying for the Alumni Banquet Meals of the 50th year class of 1960, Meals for class of 2010, and giving a $500 Alumni Scholarship to a class of 2010 member. We have to continue to raise more money to pay for all of this, so send donation (check to) "Class of 85" or try to help get golf teams or hole sponsors.

Thanks to all of you who helped sell raffle tickets last fall. We cleared $1,000 from tickets. Great Job!

Important Dates:

Sunday, May 30, 2010

We are sponsoring a golf outing on May 30 at Harrison Park in Danville. Shotgun start at 8:30 AM, format is 4-person scramble. There are various prizes to be awarded at the outing. Also, there are hole sponsorships ($50 / hole) and volunteer opportunities.

Saturday September 4, 2010

We will have a family picnic for the class of 85'-- more details to follow. We will try to do something that night as we did for our 20th Reunion. This year is Westville's 100th year anniversary for the Labor Day Parade on Monday September 6, and is expected to be one of the biggest and best parades ever for our home town.

I will post separately a list of classmates that we don't have information on. They (or people who have contact with them) will be able to call / email me with the data.

The more I think about this letter, which I found via Simberg's Flying Circus, the more pissed-off I get. So in the interests of (my) sleep, and because I won't be at a computer tomorrow, I'll discuss the letter now.

For those not clicking through, the letter purports to be written by a Wall Street trader. The gist of it is "Just like gambling, it's not a problem until you lose. I've never heard of anyone going to Gamblers Anonymous because they won too much in Vegas" and "What's going to happen when we can't find jobs on the Street anymore? Guess what: We're going to take yours."

Well, first place, you did lose! Not only that, you gambled away your plane ticket and woke me up at 2 AM to wire you money so you could get home. (Remember the bailouts of September 2008?) I may be old-fashioned, but literally losing your shirt at the craps table certainly seems like a good reason to, maybe, consider Gamblers Anonymous.

Second place, look at where the letter is posted. If we'd followed the advice of the National Review or Rand Simberg, there wouldn't have been a bailout. Right now, instead of threatening to get a real job, you'd be actually getting that job - because your company would be bankrupt and busily auctioning off the office furniture.

There's a chance that this is not the writings of real Wall Street Wizard (tm). I hope not - because if it is legit, they really don't get it on Wall Street.
