Jun. 22nd, 2010 10:16 amVarious interesting things, presented with brief commentary:
A) I suppose Bill Gates is a liberal, at least by current standards. I note that he's ponied up an additional $35 mil in a nuclear power investment. Yes, at least some liberals like nukes.
B) Staying on the environmental front, via Tobias Buckell, I learn of increased interest in and actually-flying electric aircraft. Range is still an issue, but electric motors produce great torque and don't require gearboxes, two big advantages for small private aircraft.
C) Sticking on my piracy fixation (re-writing of Space Rescue, to be re-titled Pirates of Mars, continues) I learn that Somali Pirate Cook Saves Hostages, Then Disappears. This is in connection with the liberation of the MV Rim, a Libyan-owned, North Korean-flagged cargo ship. Apparently the ship was due to be scrapped after this voyage, which probably explains the reluctance of her owners to pay ransom.
