I'm back from my visit to Westville for Labor Day. The Labor Day parade, oldest in the state, celebrated its 100th marching with a two-hour-long extravaganza. There were all sorts of other events in the offering, making this weekend extremely hectic. One of the unusual and accidental things that we did was watch half of an International Defensive Pistol Association shoot.
Dad bought a new Taurus PT-1911 .45 auto, something he's wanted for 20 years, and we went out to shoot it Sunday. Unbeknownst to us, a local IDPA chapter (link to official site) was having a shoot. Not having anything else to do, we watched them shoot for a while. IPDA is an interesting sport, one which tries to avoid "gun races," or people constantly having to upgrade their guns to stay competitive. They have several classes, including two revolver classes, and the competition focuses on "typical" self-defense shooting scenarios.
All in all, a good weekend. Now I'm back to the grind at work and Rotary.
