Inserting Your Friends In Your Novels

So, the writing on The Night Watch is progressing fairly rapidly. I needed an auxiliary bad character, and on a whim I inserted the name of a writing buddy. Said buddy, on reading the name, cackled loudly and said "I always wanted to be morally bankrupt," so their name stayed in. I've had to write two scenes with that character, so at next week's writers workshop we'll see how my friend feels about that.
