Welcome To Monday
May. 23rd, 2011 11:50 amTo the surprise of almost nobody except a few modern-day Millerites (or I guess technically they're "Campingites," although that doesn't sing), the world did not end over the weekend. Therefore, you my faithful readers get to read more of my thoughts. Lucky you ;-)
Over the weekend, the Nebula Awards were held, and sadly,
j_cheney did not win. However, she was in a tough field, so hopefully better luck next year.
On a vaguely-related note, I finished the other half of Copperwood Double #1. I don't know if the old Ace Doubles tried to group related stories together, but this double has two stories set in the same Drumlin universe. In fact, events of 1 are referred to in the other. Part 1 of my review, covering Jeff Duntemann's somewhat dark Drumlin Circus, is up at POD People. I'll write a review of Part 2 soon, than post a combined review in the usual places.
Lastly, I went and saw the latest Pirates of the Caribean movie. I watched the 3-D version, and although they did a couple of visual tricks, they generally followed the "just let it happen" language of James Cameron. So, technically a good job. In terms of plot and character, it was merely okay, even by the undemanding standards of summer popcorn flicks.
