Booze in Salt Lake City
Jan. 29th, 2014 09:51 amAt a con one day, I was talking to Mary Robinette Kowal about her work in Salt Lake City for Writing Excuses. I said something like "Salt Lake is a hard town to get a drink in." She gave me a funny look and said she had no issues. Since I was in Salt Lake City last night, I asked the bartender about this.
Apparently, up until 5 or 6 years ago, only private clubs could serve alcohol. This meant that most taverns and restaurants would have a "club" that one could join for $5 or so. Then the law was changed, and bars could be, well, bars. Per my bartender source, on the week the law switched over, various local establishments of drink got together and were running buses on bar-crawls all around the city.
And now you know... ;-)
