General Thoughts
I see from various sources that the 2014 Hugos and the 1939 Retro-Hugos nominations are up. I note that the Professional Crank on the Internet got on the ballot, and also Larry Correia. I suspect that, unless those two win, we'll not hear the end of whining on the subject of Hugos and bias, but then that's just my opinion.
I didn't actually post my Hugo vote and I didn't vote at all on the retro-Hugos. Judging by the number of nominating ballots, neither did most of the eligible folks. I would hope that our electronic packet would include the 1939 works.
2014 Thoughts
On the book front, I've read two of the five nominated works and I'm reasonably sure they were on my ballot. On the long-form dramatic front, I think I'm batting three for five. I have to admit, seeing Pacific Rim on the list is a surprise - I thought that was a throw-away on my part. I'm glad to see Mary Robinette Kowal on the list, and I'm also glad to see Seanan McGuire only on the list once - I think last year she ended up diluting herself.
1939 Thoughts
I think I've read Out of the Silent Planet, but the rest are unfamiliar to me. The long-form seems to be dominated by Orson Wells - he had a hand in four of five nominees. Back before SF became part of the mass culture, you would have years like that where one or two people put out all of the pop-culture SF for the year.
