Those of you who've seen me at cons know my usual "costume" is "banker on the weekend." Basically, jeans and a collared shirt. Regular readers know I'm attending the Writing Excuses Workshop and Cruise. Last night, I learned that there will probably a "wear your costume" night on the cruise, and I have to believe Mary Robinette Kowal will show up in Regency attire.
Well, after my personal training session, dinner and an adult beverage (in other words, I was pretty mellow) I had a wild idea - War of 1812 US Navy uniform. It's a cruise, I was in the Navy, it's the right period, what could go wrong?
So, (again, feeling mellow) I Facebook-messaged a costumer of my acquaintance how much it would set me back. The off-the-cuff answer (pun intended) was $200 plus material. Now I have to decide if I have the cojones to pull it off.
