2023 conventions
Dec. 2nd, 2022 01:40 pmIt's early, I know, but I am starting to think about my convention schedule for 2023. I'm registered for Capricon, a local convention, on February 2-5. That's usually it for me until ConQuestKC which is usually in Kansas City over Memorial Day.
However, this year ConQuest is the following weekend (June 2-4) and it's out by the airport. Which means I don't have anything going on during Wiscon which is Memorial Day weekend and still in downtown Madison WI, which is a 2 or 3 hour drive. So do I go to ConQuest or Wiscon or both?
I'm not going to Worldcon in China (assuming they actually have a con - seems like the concom has not been very communicative) but I am going to NASFIC, which is Pemmi-Con in Winnipeg, Alberta Canada 20-23 July.
Decision points on Wiscon vs. ConQuest KC:
1) I've been in the habit of driving to Kansas City and driving back on Memorial Day proper, which is not an option. But IIRC the airport is way out in the 'burbs so having a car might be nice.
2) Wiscon has a good location, but they do tend to take themselves a bit seriously.
3) Wiscon is in a rebuilding mode and this will be the first in-person con in a couple of years.
Decisions, decisions.
