I have finally seen the latest Black Panther movie, Wakanda Forever. Late I admit, but so be it. I will note that it seems people have gotten out of the habit of going out to movies – my local cinema, Hollywood Blvd in Woodridge, was very sparsely attended. About the movie itself, I have three thoughts.

First, it was a much more somber affair then the first outing. This was necessitated by the fact that Chadwick Boseman had died and the screenplay had to accommodate that. Second, as movie #2, a lot of the new had worn off. My third thought is that the movie suffered from the Superman Syndrome.

Superman is, of course, invincible. This makes him boring – he’s never in any real danger. But once you have kryptonite, well another avenue of plot becomes available. Similarly in this movie. Wakanda is the most powerful nation on Earth. Who exactly is going to mess with it? So the screenwriters had to invent another hidden vibranium-using nation to be the bad guys.

Despite the thoughts noted above, I found the movie well worth my time.
