I have Comcast Internet and digital TV (with DVR). Now Comcast wants to sell me their "triple play" which includes telephone. It would be cheaper, but I have questions, specifically:
1) Reliability. My cable's been out on several occasions, but the phone still works. How reliable is Comcast's voice network?
2) Call quality. Comcast voice is VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol). Done badly, you sound like you're calling from Mars, even if you're just across the street. How is call quality?

Comcast digital voice

No one can tell the difference, however, if the cable is out, then the phone is out. Also, if you have an alarm system. like I do, the system panel must be connected directly to the modem and that might require some installation adjustments.
I have great cell coverage, so my cell phone works inside my home, so I don't worry too about the phone being out from time to time, but if you worry about such things, I would keep your landline.
