Date: 2010-11-05 04:37 pm (UTC)The last time was during the upgrade of the Type 22 Frigates and Type 42 Destroyers where they spent a lot of time and effort seeing if they could design and operate a single Frigate type between the French and British navies. Basically it was a failure, the mission goals of the two navies for the types of ship were grossly incompatible and they couldn't agree on even basic systems implementations.
When we meet I can regale you with stories of what happened when the Royal Navy tried to reduce costs by implementing commercial hulls rather than designing naval grade ones from scratch....
