To the surprise of almost nobody except a few modern-day Millerites (or I guess technically they're "Campingites," although that doesn't sing), the world did not end over the weekend. Therefore, you my faithful readers get to read more of my thoughts. Lucky you ;-)

Over the weekend, the Nebula Awards were held, and sadly, [livejournal.com profile] j_cheney did not win. However, she was in a tough field, so hopefully better luck next year.

On a vaguely-related note, I finished the other half of Copperwood Double #1. I don't know if the old Ace Doubles tried to group related stories together, but this double has two stories set in the same Drumlin universe. In fact, events of 1 are referred to in the other. Part 1 of my review, covering Jeff Duntemann's somewhat dark Drumlin Circus, is up at POD People. I'll write a review of Part 2 soon, than post a combined review in the usual places.

Lastly, I went and saw the latest Pirates of the Caribean movie. I watched the 3-D version, and although they did a couple of visual tricks, they generally followed the "just let it happen" language of James Cameron. So, technically a good job. In terms of plot and character, it was merely okay, even by the undemanding standards of summer popcorn flicks.

Or the Rapture _did_ happen and no one was found worthy.

The sum total of my knowledge of these apocalyptic movements is in that Wikipedia link, so I wouldn't be surprised that somebody is making that claim.

I do know that the Millerites ended up spawning the Seventh-Day Adventists, so the "Campingite" movement may not be dead yet.

God stopped in Saturday afternoon and told me that what he really needed were Java programmers. I stayed here.

And definitely thanks for reviewing Drumlin Circus! The dark was deliberate--Jim basically dared me--and while difficult, it's a part of the writers' skillset that I've long neglected.
