If you haven't read about it before, the Battle of North Cape between the Royal Navy and the German Battleship Scharnhost (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_battleship_Scharnhorst) could be interesting material. It involved a long chase, a systematic boxing in and then the sinking of the ship in December in waters near the artic circle. Needless to say, there weren't many survivors.
