The Rotary Club of Darien is holding a fundraiser! Working with Charitymania, a national firm dedicated to helping non-profits raise money, we are offering their Hoopsmania sweepstakes. For a $20 entry fee, you can have 49 chances to win cash prizes up to $4,000! Winners are determined by the results of the NCAA National championship tournament. To participate, visit our web site and enter electronically.
The funds raised by this event will be used to fund the charitable endeavors of the Rotary Club of Darien. Last year, our club awarded 30 grants totaling $16,500. These grants were for such items as Eagle Scout projects, college scholarships, local in-school education programs, and support to local humanitarian charities. Our club also distributes dictionaries to all third-grade students in Darien and Lemont and donated over $16,000 to buy winter coats for needy children in Darien and surrounding areas.
This past month, our club donated over $1,000 to area food banks and an additional $1,000 to the Ray Graham Association to support programs for disabled children in the Darien area. We have an ongoing commitment to provide entertainment and companionship to seniors at the Carmelite Carefree Center in Darien. Internationally, our club has supported shipping medical supplies to Zambia, a burn clinic in Panama, and is supporting Rotary International's effort to eradicate polio worldwide.
