Short Stories

This year's crop of short stories are, in my view, weird. I'm having a hard time finding anything to like in any of them, frankly. They seem collectively to be very academic and stylistic. I'll eventually sort them into some sort of order, but right now I'm baffled.

Best Related Work

I've always found this category difficult to evaluate. What I usually end up doing is assuming I was in store and could only buy one item, then working my way down that list. So:

Queers Dig Time Lords: A Celebration of Doctor Who by the LGBTQ Fans Who Love It. I'm not a big Doctor Who fan and I'm straight, so this will probably be #4 on my ballot.

Speculative Fiction 2012: The Best Online Reviews, Essays and Commentary I've been reading parts of this - there's a lot there to love. Probably #2 on my ballot.

“We Have Always Fought: Challenging the Women, Cattle and Slaves Narrative” - Great essay. Hard to evaluate given that it's a short work compared to book and season-length works. Leaning towards #1 on my ballot.

Wonderbook: The Illustrated Guide to Creating Imaginative Fiction - not in the packet and I haven't seen it, so no vote from me.

Writing Excuses Season 8 - I keep saying that I like the episodes, but I'm not a podcast listener. By process of elimination, #3 on my ballot. May swap places with Speculative Fiction.

I bounced off the Shorts pretty hard. At this stage I'm not sure what to vote for.
