Police Shooting

chris_gerribI'm back at work, and busy getting caught up. Having said that, here's an interesting data point (or series of them) on American police practices. In Germany, a nation of 80 million people, police in 2011 fatally shot six persons. They fired 85 bullets (in total) doing that. Factoring in warning shots, the German police fired 1.75 bullets per person they hit.
I used to think that this phenomenon of "lets everybody empty our guns into the suspect" was related to the carrying of high-capacity semi-auto pistols. But since I'm told that they've been carrying semi-autos for years, that ain't the case. There is something amiss with US police practices.
