I made it to work, despite Snowpocalypse 2015, Now With More Snow! (tm) I had to do a bit of shoveling in my driveway (the city blocked me in) but once out, I found the roads snowpacked but passable and very light traffic.
Hugos
In other news, Brad Torgersen has released his Sad Puppies Hugo slate. I've read and enjoyed two of his novel picks, and one of them is on my slate. In the short fiction, Brad's list looks like a "best of Analog" slate. Even the John C. Wright piece should be at least readable.
Vox Day, Professional Crank on the Internet (PCotI) released a different slate, more heavily skewed to PCotI's publishing house. Other than Marko Kloos' Lines of Departure, there is nothing on his list I've read.
Weekend Culture Update
PCotI's publishing house released a new ebook, Riding The Red Horse, which I purchased and read. It's a deliberate mix of military non-fiction and SF military fiction. I'll have more in-depth thoughts later, but in general a pretty solid work. PCotI's fiction contribution was vastly better than last year's Hugo nominated piece-of-crap, and actually quite readable. I have issues with it and Eric S. Raymond's piece, but those are world-building, not quality.
