So, Irene Gallo, an employee at Tor, said something negative about Sad and Rabid Puppies on her personal blog while promoting a Tor product. The CEO of Tor issued a statement making clear that Gallo was speaking for herself personally. Vox Day demands Gallo resign. Yet when Brendan Eich resigned Mozilla over something he said, Vox was all Stand Your Ground! and Don't Give In to Your Critics! In short, Tom Doherty did exactly what Vox told Brendan Eichs to do, yet Doherty is wrong, per Vox. I'm shocked, shocked I tell you.

In other news, dog bites man, water is wet, and it gets kinda dark at night.

Does Vox realize how much of a caricature of himself he's become?

Gallo said something negative but accurate that most people hadn't heard of until a month later when the puppies invoked the Streisand Effect to spread it far and wide in posts notable for being thousands of words longer than the original comment, because brevity is not a Puppy strong point.

Note that for all the Puppy claims of being fiercely independent people who abhor groupthink, they all jumped and snapped in unison, a month after the post in question.

Note also that despite Sad Puppy claims of not being Vox Day's minions, they sure jump when he dangles the bait.

Paying attention to Vox Day is counterproductive - for everyone, so far as I can tell.

The question is, does anyone who really matters pay any attention to him, or is he a strictly UHF local station phenomenon? - in other words, if you didn't know about him, how long would it take to hear of him?

Well, the problem with ignoring cranks and hoping that they go away is that the crank has the option of escalation until people CAN'T ignore them.

I dunno, the “blogosphere” is awfully large.  It's difficult to play Chun the Unavoidable against the World Wide Web.

Besides, consider the fate of Ann Coulter.  Did you know she's still active?  But she'll never get her high-water-mark audience back, because she also “escalated,” played “Can You Top This” against herself - and lost.  Even I don't pay attention to her anymore, and I used to like her work.

If it got noised about that the people centrally involved publicly disavowed Vox, he might find himself dwindling…  his audience eventually reduced to those Lefties who find it useful to believe that his living caricature is the Real Deal of the Right.
