Red Sparrow

Over the weekend, I went to my local dinner-and-a-movie place and watched Red Sparrow, the Jennifer Lawrence spy movie. I attended the 4:30 pm show and it was not crowded. Black Panther is apparently still packing the seats.

Regarding Red Sparrow I found it a 7 out of 10. Well-acted, professionally-shot, no actual plot holes. Lawrence's character was perhaps a bit more competent than she deserved to be, but not somebody I at least felt like rooting for. It was a bit like she was playing a Katniss Everdeen that hadn't actually volunteered for anything but had just "won" the lottery straight up. Still, it was entertaining.

In other news, I've committed writing again - cranking out around 1,000 words on Eastville. Go me!

Meaning that there were actually people in those seats.  A friend of mine here was the only one in the otherwise-empty theatre a while back.  I attended the premier showing of Man of Steel, and only a third of the seats were taken - because the still-unsold tickets had been given away!  (The only reason I went.)

I wonder how many showings of these “blockbuster” movies do, in fact, play to the chairs.

Fair enough; the lesson of the Enlightenment is, Don't blindly accept Authority, see for yourself!

- which is why I said what I did; I'd be more likely to believe they do play to crowds if I ever heard of them doing so.  What I hear is of them NOT.  But I don't know everything.
