Nor very reminisent of Long John Silver either. However, not one but two merchants were attacked by pirates off of the Somali coast. One ship, the North Korean flagged Dai Hong Dan, successfully fought off the attack, while a Panamian flagged ship owned by a Japanese firm, the Golden Nori, was captured and is presumably in a Somali port.

Note please, that neither the Panamanian, Japanese nor either of the Korean navies are anywhere to be found. Assistance is being rendered by the USS James E. Williams and USS Arleigh Burke.

You'd almost think there would be a market for a maritime Blackwater - increase speed, take evasive action, order Marines to direct machine-gun and rifle fire to boats to starboard and stand-by to repel boarders ...

I'm told that there are companies doing this - the clients are individual merchant shipping companies. Obviously the Japanese firm was too cheap to spring for their services.
