The Big Game

I watched the Bears-Packer game yesterday, one of the few sports games I watched in the past year. Now, in part this is because my sister got the athletic genes in the family, so I'm not that interested in sports in general. In part that's because, as a kid, I don't remember "watching the game."

When I was a very small child, we moved into a new house. My dad spent several years working on the weekends to finish the basement and other parts of the house, so weekends were for work. As I got older and dad finished the basement, we tended to go shooting on Sundays, so again, no watching the game. I do remember that WGN had a Sunday afternoon movie, introduced by Frazier Thomas, which I tended to watch when dad got tired of me trying to "help" him. The movie selection was heavy in old Errol Flynn actioners. But it meant that I never developed the "watch football on Sunday" habit.

Capricon

For the second year in a row, I've decided to check into the hotel for Capricon on Thursday night. Last year's excuse was my discombobulated kitchen. This year it's just that, since I didn't take a winter vacation, I want an extra day out of the house.

Nigerian 419 scams on Facebook

I suppose it was inevitable, but I just got spammed with a Nigerian 419 scam on Facebook. It was the usual spectacle of grammar and greed, and came with a "friend" request to boot. No thanks - I'll pass.

Now that I've joined Facebook, a whole bunch of people I haven't seen in ages are now on my friends list. It occurred to me that I should provide a brief update, and point out that my primary blog is on LiveJournal. So, without further ado:

1) I'm living in Chicago (Villa Park, a suburb) and working as Senior Vice President, Technology at a mid-sized community bank.

2) In 2006, I self-published a science fiction novel,The Mars Run (Amazon) / The Mars Run (direct from publisher). I have another novel done, and if that doesn't find a home at the publisher it's sitting at, I'll self-publish it as well.

3) I joined Rotary, and am the Past President of the Darien, IL Rotary Club.

4) Like I said, my primary blog is LiveJournal, and I usually post there five days a week.
