So, my re-write of what is now Pirates of Mars made a hash out of the sequel, The Night Watch. This forced me to re-think the later book. Here's a re-thought snippet (actually the opening lines):

There were a lot of places on Mars where it was perfectly safe to get drunk. Mos Eiseley's Cantina in Boxtown was not one of those places.

Too busy with the day job for real blogging, so, here's the opening paragraph from my latest work-in-progress, Taken to Mars.

“Aren’t you going to turn?” Octavia said.
The red pickup truck, covered in a fine layer of Arizona dust, continued straight ahead.
“Why would I turn there?” Mr. Vutrick asked.
“Because that’s the way to the Tabernacle, sir,” Octavia replied. “I thought you were taking me to choir practice.”
“We’re not going to choir practice.”
“Where else would we go?” She asked.
“Mars,” Mr. Vutrick replied.
“The planet?”
“You know any other Mars?”
She did not.
