Movie blogging
Apr. 22nd, 2007 01:45 pmI went so see the movie Fracture last night. Anthony Hopkins plays an arrogant but brilliant man, who shoots his wife because she's sleeping with another man. He confesses and it appears to be a slam-dunk case. Since this happens in the first 15 minutes of the movie, rest assured appearances can be deceiving.
It's an enjoyable flick, but you need to understand that there are no accidents in this movie. Everything happens for a purpose. Ryan Gosling plays a young DA on his way out the door for the big bucks in corporate law, and turns in a nice performance. A large part of the plot hinges on a missing gun, which was a little difficult to believe, since guns have serial numbers.
I think the key thing that the writers grasped was the concept of surprise. Being surprised is a state of mind, and if you're surprised, things that you would normally do may not get done. At any rate, "Fracture" is an enjoyable movie for adults.
