Review of Fisherman's Bend

Linda Greenlaw’s newest book, Fisherman's Bend, recently showed up at my doorstep. Being a generous sort, I took it in and read it. I’m pleased that I did. Ms. Greenlaw got her first start at fame by a supporting role the book The Perfect Storm. As Captain of the Hannah Boden, she survived the storm that took the Andrea Gail. After that, but while still fishing, she took up writing, producing two non-fiction books, then transitioning to novels.

Fisherman’s Bend is her second novel, a murder mystery starring Jane Bunker, sheriff’s deputy in a small Maine town. The novel starts out interestingly enough, with Jane encountering a ghost ship, the lobster boat Eva B. It looks simple enough at first, a case of accidental drowning, but looks can be deceiving. Ms. Greenlaw works in quite a bit of stuff in this book, including buried treasure, smuggling and a cast of genuine Maine eccentrics, which she wraps up masterfully into a satisfying conclusion.

I was quite pleased to have an opportunity to read Fisherman’s Bend, and I can recommend it to fans of mystery, the sea and plain old good writing.
